Siddique Mahmudur Rahman a short resume
SIDDIQUE MAHMUDUR RAHMAN was born in 4 September 1946 in Jessore. His father Fazlur Rahman worked in the DPI and Foreign Service, wrote a few literary works and mother Sajeda Rahman, a graduate from Shantiniketan, was a housewife and an authoress. Siddique had his school education from Kolkata during 1953-65, as his father worked in the then Pakistan Deputy High Commission there.
Siddique had BA in 1969, but could not complete MA due to Liberation War. He was engaged into social work and established Danbir Hazi Mohammad Mohsin High School at Murali, Jessore, in 1974, where he taught for some times.
He had his BEd degree in 1978 and MA in English in 1980. He published ‘Asian Voice’ a pen-friendship magazine during 1966-1980.
Siddique worked in different organizations in administration, printing, publishing, editing and translation during 1976-2006. He is a reputed author, translator, editor and publication specialist. He worked for twenty years in BIRDEM, for three years in travel fortnightly newspaper ‘The Bangladesh Monitor’ and monthly journal ‘Dhaka Calling’. He was also worked as Coordinator for Dhaka representative of Singapore Tourism, SingHealth, Emirates and Qatar Airways. He was also worked as coordinator with the Dhaka Representative of Raffles Hospital, Singapore.

Besides he provided technical assistance in publishing Istiaque Ahmed Khan’s Meter Franking Cancellation of Bangladesh, National Professor M.R. Siddique is pioneer in research on postal history and postage stamps of Bangladesh, Siddique’s research publications include A History of Bangladesh Philately, 1987, Bangladesh Stamp and Postal History, 1988; বাংলাদেশের ডাকব্যবস্থা and বাংলাদেশের ডাকটিকিট 1995 and Artist K G Mustafa and his Exceptional Works, 2008. Postage Stamps of Bangladesh 1971-2008, and বাংলাদেশের ডাকব্যবস্থা 2nd Edition, 2010. He has also developed two database multimedia software on Bangladesh postage stamps in CD.

Siddique’s presented papers incluse a. Presented a paper on Postage Stamps during the Liberation War of Bangladesh at a one-day seminar held at Jahangirnagar University on 26.09.1994; b. Presented a paper on Postal History of Bangladesh: A Compendium at a seminar in the Dept. of History, Dhaka University, 2 July, 2009;
c. Presented a paper on Postal History of Dhaka City at the International Conference on the History, Heritage and Urban Issues of Capital Dhaka, 17 February, 2010.
Siddique organized a stamp exhibition in Jessore in 1974. He was associated with all philatelic exhibitions of Bangladesh, specially in the First Bangladesh National Philatelic Exhibition - Banglapex 1984, stamp exhibition arranged during the First SARC Summit, in 1985, and Bangladesh National Philatelic Exhibition -Banglapex 1992. He edited Banglapex Exhibition Souvenir, 1992.
Since boyhood Siddique is a prolific writer and a successful translator. His translated publications include: পাখি, 1991; ভাল মেয়ে, 2000; স্বর্গ মরীচিকা, 2001; Poems of Bangladesh’ 2004; Shahabuddin Nagnri’s Poems, 2005, Selected Poems (10 poems each of 12 poets) 2005; Poems of Bimal Guha, Fifty Poems of Rabindra Gope, 2008 and মোগল সিংহ বাবর, 2010. Siddique’s creative writings include নাই কিরে সুখ (Short Stories), 1997; আর একটু সময় (Poems), 2004; সে আমার গোপন কথা (Novel) and মিথ্যে গল্প (Juvenile Short Stories), 2008, এই দিন সেই দিন (Novel) and সায়েম মাহমুদের নিষ্ফল দ্বৈরথ (Novel), 2010. He contributed three articles in Banglapaedia, 2003.
Siddique Mahmudur Rahman was awarded Silver-Bronze Medal from 22nd Asian International Stamp Exhibition, ‘Jakarta 2008’ for his book ‘Artist K G Mustafa and his Outstanding Designs.’ Earlier he was awarded Silver-Bronze Medal from Cardinal Spellman Philatelic Museum Inc., USA, Bronze Medal from American Philatelic Society, USA both in 1990 and Silver Bronze Medal by Australian Philatelic Federation in 1993 for his pioneering publication ‘Bangladesh Stamps and Postal History’. He was awarded Silver Bronze by Pacific Explorer, Australia in 2005 for his unique philatelic software in CD Postage Stamps of Bangladesh.
Siddique is the Life Member of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Itihash Samity, Bangladesh National Philatelic Association, and Editing and Publishing Association of Bangladesh. He was honorary Advisor of Philatelists Association of Bangladesh.
